Therapeutic BOTOX® can be used in a number of different clinical disorders. As an effective treatment for TMJ (Temporal Mandibular Joint) pain, it relaxes, the large muscles of the jaw that, if left untreated over time, can become stronger and lead to severe jaw pain, tension headaches, severe teething grinding, and even dental issues. Similarly, Therapeutic BOTOX® injected into the underarm area can relax overactive muscles that in turn trigger their associated sweat glands. Many people have found relief from excessive underarm perspiration issues with Therapeutic BOTOX® injections. Finally, Therapeutic BOTOX® also works for chronic migraines by blocking chemicals called neurotransmitters, that carry pain signals for the brain. Therapeutic BOTOX® essentially stops these chemicals from arriving at nerve endings in the head and neck area, which otherwise results in a migraine-type headache. When you have a temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder, you may suffer from uncomfortable facial tension, clicking, jaw pain, and headaches, all of which can range from moderate to severe. Injecting Therapeutic BOTOX® treatment into the armpit can calm those overactive glands, and temporarily reduce or even eliminate excessive sweating. Chronic migraines can be debilitating for those who suffer with them. Dr Humniski has certainly witnessed this in her work as an Emergency Room Physician, having treated many patients who have no where left to turn when suffering from an excruciating migraine. Defined as more than 15 migraine headaches per month for more than 3 months, chronic migraines affect approximately 1% of the population. Health Canada has approved Therapeutic BOTOX® injections as a preventative treatment for migraines after 2 large clinical trials demonstrated significant improvement in the frequency of headaches in this population. Therapeutic BOTOX® is safely injected into the upper face, scalp, neck and shoulder area every 3 months in this select group of migraine sufferers
